Yet another case where a male is the victim of a crime under a state’s law, but is being forced to pay the perp child support. Only in the U.S…

It is quite amazing the data you can get out of governmental agencies here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Pursuant to a FOIA request, I got the actual count of those jailed on either civil or criminal contempt charges across the Commonwealth for the past five years.

Of course, I didn’t want the actual count, I wanted names, jails and courts…and what I got back was simply amazing — over 174,000 jailings for contempt across the state for the past five years, many of them jailed illegally under § 16.1-278.16 — just one of the many criminal/civil statutes that one can be jailed under here in Virginia. It is also one of two statutes that non-attorney employees of DCSE have been illegally filing legal pleadings for over two decades.

I go to work this week on those currently jailed in Rockingham County. A friend who is an attorney is going to investigate those currently jailed in Fairfax and Prince William County.
